Today was a very productive day and I'm definitely seeing the end of the tunnel with this engine build. And me like what me sees.....

I would have had the fancy chrome dipstick installed, but instead it was gay and decided to do this.... ![]() And I was all like.... ![]() Which one do you think is faster??? ![]() Things still left to do: 1.) Get new fancy dipstick that isn't gay and install it. 2.) Get some new plug wires and get them strung up. 3.) Try and pull the small dent out of the custom baffled oil pan and get it painted and installed with new hardware. 4.) Get a harmonic balancer installation tool and get the balancer fully installed. 5.) Get a new alternator and power steering pump bracket and get them installed. 6.) Get the fuel plumbing and get started installing it. Once all that is done (hopefully, by next weekend) then it's go time. I'll be ready to pull the old engine and relieve it of the last few things I need for the new motor. Of course all the old stuff will get cleaned up and painted as well. Then I have to pull the transmission and get it cleaned and painted. Finally it will be time to drop this beast in it's hole and start hookin' everything up. If all goes well then it will take it's maiden voyage down the street to the muffler shop to get a new exhaust put in.... The future is a consequence of the present. |

Well, I got more stuffz from Summit today and after running 12 kazillion errands, I finally got a little garage time. I got a super nice baffled and trap doored Moroso 7 qt. oil pan, a set of MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor plug wires, Edelbrock hard line, filter, and braided line from the fuel pump, and a March Performance alternator bracket. I also went ahead and pulled the valve covers from the old motor to put on the new one and much to my dismay there is clearance issues with the roller rockers. My next step is to figure out what I'm going to do for valve covers and get that ball rolling. In the mean time I have teh pikchures......
Teh stuffz.... ![]() Oil pan going on.... ![]() Flipped upright, wires on, fuel line mocked up, and full of oil.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A little detail work I did the other day.... ![]() ![]() With all that done, I am now left to find some new valve covers and figure out how I'm going to magically create a few days off in a row so I can go to swappy town. Things have been a little crazy lately so the engine has kind of been on the back burner. Well, I got tired of staring at it so I ordered a few more things to get it closer to being REALLY done. I ordered some tall valve covers, some exhaust wrap, and some misc. bolts. Then I went to the local part store and got a new water pump, power steering pump and high pressure line, and a less gay oil dip stick.
I finally got a little time today and I got the dip stick, water pump, lower pulley, and alternator bracket on. Then I tackled the exhaust wrap. I really wish I would have worn a long sleeve shirt to do this. I only got one side done so when I do the other side I'll be a little more prepared and a little less itchy....... My valve covers should be in on Tuesday so I'll update when I get those in and installed. So here's the front of the engine now with the freshly painted lower pulley and water pump on and the alt bracket mocked up with a spare alternator.... ![]() Close up of the alternator bracket.... ![]() Here's the side I didn't get wrapped for comparison.... ![]() ![]() And here's the side that did get wrapped and it turned out fucking awesome if I do say so myself.... ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm so close now I can taste it.......... Maybe because of the care you put into wrapping the pipes with heat tape, you are probably fine. But I would route the ignition wires away from the hot exhaust pipes anyway, and instead to thread them from above. To me, doing so will extend the life of the wires. And wires with some cool bling and mounts can look pretty sharp above or around the rocker cover if done right.
