General computer question...
OK, so here's my situation:
I have a desktop computer upstairs that runs on wired internet. I have a laptop downstairs that runs off wireless internet. The cable comes in to the basement, goes into the router thing, from there to the wireless router, and out through the cable to the upstairs computer. I am in the (slow) process of finishing my basement and will probably have some sort of computer down there for the kids to play on, and that will need an internet connection as well. Anyway, that's my "network". I have downloaded a bunch of music on to the laptop, and my wife complains that a lot of times, she wants to listen to something that is on the laptop, but isn't on the desktop upstairs. My laptop and desktop both have 240 GB hard drives, and with all the music and movies on the laptop, probably 60% of that storage is used up. I'd like to clean up both harddrives and make some of the files universally available. To that end, what I'd like to do (if it's even possible) is put some sort of big ass hard drive (like a 1 TB) down in the basement wired in next to the routers so that both computers can access it for files, or wire it in to the desktop upstairs and make it accessible by the laptop on the wireless network. Can that be done, and is it difficult? |

RE: General computer question...
It is the easiest way to access files from several locations IMO.

RE: General computer question...
well if it is only for music, might i recommend using Zune software? I think they got something in there to share music between pcs. I know I can share music from my PC and Xbox 360 thru Zune software at least.

RE: General computer question...
Well, I'm getting a black and white laserjet for all the school shit I have to print out, I want to be able to print on that from any computer in the house, too. So, I guess a server is the best way to go.
